Ghana

Ghana is a priority partner for SECO's economic development cooperation, recognized for its pivotal role in fostering growth and stability in the region. The country is actively pursuing economic growth, social progress, and environmental sustainability, driven by a rapidly expanding young population that generates strong demand for jobs and sustainable development practices. Despite this potential, Ghana faces systemic economic challenges and environmental pressures. Nevertheless, the country holds considerable opportunities for sustainable economic development, achievable through targeted reforms and strategic improvements. SECO's Cooperation Programme 2025-2028 is designed to support Ghana in addressing these challenges and leveraging its opportunities. The program aims to strengthen the foundations for a resilient and forward-looking economy by focusing on enhanced local governance, inclusive job creation, and environmental integrity.

A more resilient and forward-looking economy

Ghana stands out as a model of democracy, rule of law and stability in West Africa. Since attaining middle-income status in 2010, the country has positioned itself as a regional leader attracting international partnerships and investment opportunities. Yet, Ghana stands at a pivotal moment. Systemic economic challenges and environmental pressures continue to strain its progress. To achieve its vision of economic growth, social development, and environmental sustainability, the country must strengthen governance, foster a dynamic private sector, and demonstrate a stronger commitment to environmental sustainability. In response, the Cooperation Programme Ghana 2025-2028 is designed to strengthen Ghana’s resilience and foster a forward-looking economy. By enhancing local governance and institutional performance, nurturing a dynamic private sector that generates jobs and sustainable income, and advancing environmental integrity, Switzerland supports Ghana to better seize opportunities and address future challenges with confidence.
