Project spending

The economic and trade policy measures implemented by SECO in the context of development cooperation contribute to the reduction of poverty and global risks and promote peace and the human rights. The main objective is to foster a sustainable and inclusive growth.

Government authorities, civil societies, private companies and other stakeholders in recipient countries benefit from those measures. Whenever possible, the measures are implemented in cooperation with Swiss companies and service providers. Some specific projects are implemented in collaboration with multilateral organisations (e.g. the World Bank).

*From 2025 onwards, expenditures for development cooperation with Eastern European countries will no longer be reported separately.

Development cooperation

Switzerland is engaged in development cooperation in the South and in the East. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs supports more advanced developing countries in the South, while in the East it works together with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Albania, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine. In addition, SECO is active in other countries in the South, such as Myanmar, Nepal, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, and Bolivia, with complementary measures, particularly in support of SDC programmes.
